WHERE I CAME FROM
I was born in Brooklyn, NY in August 1946, part of the first crop of Baby Boomers. My parents, natives of New York City, transplanted me to New Jersey just before my third birthday. I lived most of my life, before taking to the road, in New Jersey so I consider myself a Jersey Girl.

MY HISTORY AS AN RVer
Barry and I met at a Parents Without Partners camping weekend. He had an ancient Mini-Winnie, class C motorhome and I had a big tent. The tent was roomier than the motorhome and we never had to call AAA to start the tent.

Shortly after our marriage, Barry announced that he was going to retire at 55 and we were going to sell the house in the Princeton area of New Jersey and live, full-time, in a motorhome. In true Jersey Girl fashion, I replied: yeah right.

He gave me old copies of old Trailer Life and Good Sam Club magazines and made sure I read all of the new ones that came in the mail. He began to take me to RV shows so that I could see how nice the motorhomes were. It was an awakening. Up until that time I thought a pop-up camper was a luxury. It was certainly an upgrade from the tent!

At one of the shows, I wandered into a trailer that had an upstairs. This was the early 90's and motorhomes did not have slide-out rooms. Trailers with an upstairs, did. After he got over his fear of towing, he agreed on the trailer with an upstairs. I also learned that it was called a fifth wheel.

The next step was to see how I liked the traveling life. Since I would go nowhere in the Winnebago, we bought a pickup truck and a slide-in camper. I loved the little camper and after several cross-country vacations, the gypsy in my soul was turned loose.

We began our full-timing life in July, 1996 with a customized 38 foot King of the Road fifth wheel and a one-ton Ford extended cab pickup with a Diesel engine. This combo lasted us over 4 years. Barry wanted a new truck and decided that the best bet for us would be a Freightliner. He ordered the new truck and I asked if I could get a new house. He agreed and we ordered our customized 40 foot Newmar Kountry Aire.
